Tomsk.

 

Tomsk is very ancient city. It situated on the bank of the rivers Tom in South-west Siberia in South-west federal region of Russia Federation. It was founded by the tsar Ivan IV (Ivan the Terrible) in 1604 as merchant center from Moscow to China and India.

Nowadays it’s one of the largest industrial, scientific and educational center of Russia. Here are situated 6 universities, such as Tomsk State University (http://www.tsu.ru), the oldest university in Siberia, it was founded in 1878, Tomsk State Polytechnic University (http://www.tpu.ru), Tomsk State University of Control Systems and Radioelectronics (http://www.tusur.ru), Tomsk State University of Architecture and Building (http://www.tsuab.ru), Tomsk State Pedagogic University (http://www.tspu.edu.ru), Siberian State Medicine University (http://www.ssmu.ru), great number of different colleges, academies and institutes.

Here are situated institutes of Siberian Brunch of Russian Academy of Sciences (http://www.tsc.ru), which are formed Tomsk Scientific Center and institutes of Russian Academy of Medicine Sciences and Ministry of Education.

The population of our sity is about 600 thousand people and the population of Tomsk Region is about one million.

Next year we will celebrate the 400-year since foundation of Tomsk.

Our REC – “Physics and Chemistry of High-Energy Systems”, REC-016, was founded on the base of Physics, Physicotechnical and Mechanics-mathematics departments of Tomsk State University, Siberian Physicotechnical Institute of Tomsk State University and Institute of Strength Physics and Material Science SB RAS (http://www.ispms.ru) in 2002. Scientific field of our REC is material science.
